Frisky and Mannish
'there was hardly a moment when the audience stopped laughing' - *****Edinburgh Evening News, August 2009
'The secret will be out before long, but there's still just time to say you saw Frisky and Mannish before they were famous...' - Fringe Guru, July 2009
Recently returned from their incredibly successful run at The Edinburgh Fringe, where they recieved no less than seven 5star reviews! Frisky and Mannish are back to headline our 'Midnight Cabaret'.
Frisky and Mannish are musicians on a mission. Hailing from the world-renowned Leipzig Conservatoire, it is their manifesto to uncover the "unfamiliar" elements dormant within the most ubiquitous pop classics.
When Frisky met Mannish in the dining carriage of a train, a faked orgasm and a pastrami sandwich later they were firm friends. They toured Europe with great success (especially in Armenia, less so in Portugal.) Then they set sail for England, and were passengers on the ill-fated Felixstowe ferry sinking of 2008. The turbulently gifted pair met with initial failure in London, but after advice from a Leipzig mentor, they tentatively logged on to GuitarTabs.com.
In their attempts to break the West with reworkings of classic pop songs, Frisky and Mannish noted that the surface meaning was not always consistent with either the musical connotations, or other linguistic levels of meaning.
It has become their mission to re-educate the world as to the plethora of possibilities hidden within such seemingly innocuous hits as 'Come On Eileen' and 'Thriller', for example.
And sometimes they just tit about with pop songs.
